FeedMyInbox

FeedMyInbox is an easy way to subscribe to websites for updates and latest news. I have created an account with them. As I am a cricket fan I have subscribed to cricinfo.com, latest news from New Delhi Times (ndtv.com) and Manuka Libraies blog. I visit these websites almost everyday and I hate getting too many updates in my inbox, so personally I'd prefer not to receive too many spam updates in my inbox. So FeedMyInbox is not really my thing.. I dont find it that interesting and I probably wont be promoting it as much as the other sites.

PiiCaPp

PiCapp is quite an intersting site filled with millions of magines and it allows people to use those pictures in their blogs. The good thing about Picapp is that the pictures that are availabe with Picapp are free to use and its 100% legal to copy and paste pictures using their embedded code. Moreover it does not require you to create an account unlike other sites which made it nice, quick and easy.

If you ask my personal opinion, I didnt quite find the pictures I wanted. When I typed it fashion, it came up with a bunch of pictures of a celebrity captured by paparazzis, there was no fashion element in any of the pics that came up. And later I wanted to see the beautiful sights of China and again it came up with the random pictures of Chinese politicians and other irrelevant pictures. So I wasn't pleased by my surfing though Picapp, I rekcon google images provide a better service than Picapp, I will stick to that.
As for future use I will keep in mind the site and would offer customers who seek help with pictures.

Here is an interesting picture that came up when i searched for "flowers"

A vendor sells garlands of marigold flowers at a wholesale flower market ahead of Janamashtmi , in Kolkata August 30, 2010. The garlands will be in great demand as people seek to decorate temples and homes for Janamashtmi , the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna that will be celebrated on September 2. this picture here is a bit obscure on first glance, you might think the man is walking with yellow coloured rope. But what it really is that the man is holding a garland of marigold flowers who sells it at the wholesale flower market in Kolkata.

2nd Round Web2.0 - starting with box. net

Guess what..we are back with the web2.0 journey, 2nd round. I truly acknowledge the library for coming up with these web.20 activities for us.
This time we started off web 2.0 with the box.net...it's a great site which gives you 1gb of workspace where you can save your documents, photos etc. It also allows you to share the files, add comments, start a discussion etc. the good thing about box.net is that it will be particularly useful to customer who do not have a USB or any other portable device to save their work.we all tend to misplace our USB device every now and then, so box.net is a great place to save all our important documents. once you exceed the 1gb capacity you will have to pay to buy additional space.

End of web 2.0

Well I gotta say the past 6 or 7 weeks of web2.0 journey has been quite interesting and knowledgeable....it has definitely helped me expand my knowledge of the cyber world especially Zanzar and Goodreads ...those two sites I didnt know before and is something i would use it later for my use and also will be good tool to recommend to customers. Twitter and Facebook is there to make life easier...I'm already a Facebook addict and I kinda find Twitter a little boring may be because it's not as vibrant and interactive as facebook. I reckon Facebook is 100x better in terms of interaction and online socialising.

so i guess that's it. I'm done!!!!

Facebook

I am sure I dont need to explain it to anyone about Facebook as it been out there for quite some time and majority of us are in it already... I have been in it for about two and a half years and it's the best social networking site i have seen, it allows us to be in touch wid people from all over the world, view photos, play games join groups and I have already joined the Manukau Libraries group, etc etc// the best thing i like about facebook is the interactive nature of it and it's a pretty good site to kill time aswell.

Freeeeeeeee Music download

Okayyy when i first read the *free* music download, i actually thought to myself NOooo way! this cant be true and well guess what I 'm partially right and wrong. It is true that various mp3 sites offer Free music downloads but the FREE**** part only applies to music/artists that I have never heard of, why would i want to waste my time downloading randoms... all the top-rated or popular songs are NOT for free, You will have to purchase them! and those that offers some of the songs that I liked, didnt open up properly..may be becoz the internt here at the library is slow.
I went and browsed through Amazon.com, mp3.com and I gotta say I am fascinated by the big collection of music they all have but it is particularly of no interest to me as I usually get free music from my friends. But for those peeps who are interested i will recommend sites such as:
AmazonMp3 store, ArtistServer.com, GarageBand.com, MP3.com, Muzic.com etc.

GoodReads

I took a quick browse through the GoodReads and I gotta say its quite a fascinating site. They have information about most of the published books and it gives you recent book reviews and the most interest part it you can can track of all the books you have read by adding them to 'my books'...and through this it automatically picks up the type of books you are into and gives recommendations on the other must-read books according to your taste. another interesting part about his site is it has a huge collection of quotes of famous people.
the fun part of the site it allows a bit of socialising as well, we can add our friends from facebook and see the books they are reading and see their book reviews and if you are looking to read something new, easy way to check out what recommendations from your friends.
so check it out folks!!!!!

*twitter*

Okayy so twitter is quite an interesting social networking site, quite different from some of the other social networking sites we have seen such as Facebook and Orkut. Twitter allows us to update our status, write our own specialised status messages which allows our curious "followers" (and stalkers) to know what we are up to and it is also a way we express our thoughts and feelings. And i guess we could also write notes about things that we are concerned about at the moment or pretty much whatever comes to our mind. What i find most interesting about twitter is that it allows us to follow our celebrity fans and know what they are up to...but the problem is we dont know for sure if its the right person on the other end. However twitter tries its best to have legitimate members by having the verfified function key. So I am following a range of people, starting with my family and friends to great world leaders and celebrities. Its really amazing to get Dalai Lama's message or see what celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Channing Tatum is up to.

~*~Zamzar~*~

Isnt it amazing how it only takes less than a minute to convert a file to another. The instructions are as easy as it looks on the picture.
It will be great help for me as a Uni student as I always get my course related things in a pdf file where it does not allow me to write class notes on it, which I found quite annoying. So now all I have to do is go to Zamzar and convert the file to a word doc and do whatever changes i like to it. Similarly if I dont want people to make any changes to my work i can always change a word doc back to a pdf. Those are just two examples that I applies to me, there are various other conversions you can do like music, video, picture conversions. why didnt I know about this earlier..? Thank You Web 2.0!So just check out the website www.zamzar.com and the good thing is its absolutely FREEEEEEE!!

o o o Back again to the new web2.0 programme

Yep back with the Web 2.0 programme and from the look of it... it seems just as interseting as the previous programme.I am looking forwrd to learning about new things, and play around a bit. so bare with me we are gonna get onto it properly from next week by looking at various new fascinating sites, and i will writing about my findings, opinions etc. and I believe this blogging helps us improve our knowledge and we are living in the "technology-age" where things are changing at a rapid rate and most of them we are not aware of. so a well organized programme like Web 2.0 will give us a good outlook of what is out there and how to make the most of it.
gotta get back to work now, i see a long que out at the desk.
