Week 8: Web based applications

For this session, we were suppose to look at some of the web based applications like Zoho Writer & Google Docs. Unfortunately due to some technical problems with the network, I was not able to enter the Zoho writer. But from my understanding it's quite a good tool that allows us users to work without worrying about the different versions of software. So for example if my file is a PDF file i can easily convert it into other file types such as HTML. I am about to explore the google docs now..so i ll write more about it once i get hold of it.

i had a quick look at the google docs. From what i have learned it's all about accessing your files and documents from any where in the world through internet. So once a document is created and uploaded into google docs, you can open it and work on it from any computer around the globe. And it also takes off the file type barrier. I think it's quite a good tool when when doing projects, you wil be able to work on it from anywhere without having to carry a USB flash drive/memory stick. It will be safely saved in google docs.

Yummmey food and recipes most of you will be thinking as the sound of it Del-icio-us, just what i thought when i heard it first. But we are mistaken.. Del-icio-us ( i like the way it is spelt)is a "social bookmarking site" ( daz what they call it) it allows you to create bookmarks of various things and share it with other people. So what Del-icio-us does is it keep tracks of all the web pages that i have tagged...and it automatically put em together for easy access. For example if i find some interesting movie clip or intersting recipes or anything that catch my eyes.. i can tag it and will be placed it into my interest collection.
Anyway i have created an account with them http://delicious.com/malluchick89. So check it out sometime.. i will be doing the tagging whenever i c something interesting.

Social Networking sites: I lourrrrrrrve Facebooooook.

i started off this week's blog with great enthusiasm thinking how great it would be to browse through my favourite social networking sites such as bebo, facebook, orkut, hi5 and many more thinking best way to procrastinate. But looks like the council is not letting me into any of them. Like many other youngsters i too have an account with most of the social networking sites but i dont get much time to maintain all of them. so at the moment im trying to maintain bebo, facebook and orkut. & yay i wud love to talk about it.. they are awwsum sites and it helps you make new friends, be in touch with your friends of all times through commenting/scrapping though sometimes you find some people use these to pass on gossips/rumours. it also allows you to personalize your profile, add photos, play games with your friends and many many other features.

Wikis

ohhhhk Wikis now.. well i'd say its quite a good search tool.. u can search almost anything on wikis and it will come up with quite a lot of relevant and useful information. However a mjaor drawback with wikis are the reliability of the information. how reliable are the information.? as most of the information contained in it is written by vast number of readers and it is continoudly edited by readers. So we cannot completely rely on the information provided in wikis as some of them are controversial. But generally speaking it quite a helpful tool which is offered to the world at large and it gives quite a fair and balanced information. With all my research assignments i normally start off searching at wiki and i gather info that i think sounds true and relevant. But i dont completely rely on just wiki.. i normally go and do a wide search on books and other sites to make sure the info i got is accurate.

BlogLines: Week2

I just realised i have skipped quite a lot of previous week's tasks.. so i thought of going back to what i was suppose to do in Week2. Ok Bloglines.. At first i thought whether there ws a difference between bloglines and the actual blogger. Anyway i decided to go and have a look at it.. again i realised i need to sign up and be a member to use bloglines. So i created an account with them. So firstly I chose my area of intersts like 'iTunes music', BBC news, 'chocolate & zucchines', movies reviews etc and it automatically tracked news and things from all round of my interest and updates it every now and then. So its qute a good and easy search tool.

LibraryThing

Today I had a quick browse through the LibraryThing site and I created an account with them. It allows me to do a wide search on books that i have always watned to read I definitely do not have a big book shelf in my home mainly coz i cant afford them at the moement. However in Library thing Im trying to create my own virtual bookshelf by filling it with all the books i have read and all the books i like to read. These are cases where you think you perceive something to be the case, but, in fact, something else is the case. This is called Visual Illusioning. This is something interesting I found interesting during my Philosophy lecture and i thought i should post it in my blog.

My Very First Blog Entry

Today is Sun the 10th of Aug and the time is sharp 12.31pm.I have now officially started my very first blog entry. The sun is out shining brightly as ever, perfect day to be outdoor or even to do something productive. After 17 mins: I dont know why, when, where and how i should start. The time is now 1.15 pm ..I have been sitting here staring at the monitor thinking how i can come up with the most exciting and the most interesting blog entry ever. o0o0o0psieeeeeeees its 1.30pm Time's up! Laterrz Folks. Just another note, I am not as boring in person as my blog looks.
